Odd: This portrait of Mrs Bell brought the hauntings to an end
For years, owner Alan Smith, 70, has reported numerous sightings of a ghostly woman moving between the rooms of the building in the early hours of the morning. "She was usually wreathed in a blue haze and just drifted around – you couldn’t see her legs," he said. "Sometimes she would even arrive at the bottom of my bed in the middle of the night." It is told that the ghost is Mrs Bell who previously occupied the 15-bedroom mansion before her death in the early 1900s.
The ghost interest in the house was a mystery to Mr. Smith. He knew there must be some kind of scientific explanation behind this ghostly encounter, but could not figure out the main purpose of the ghost intention. Not until Mr. Smith took the picture to be appraised on the Antiques Roadshow, the ghostly story came to light. After the portrait was placed in the drawing room, sightings of a ghost at a 19th century mansion have stopped. The painting belonged to Mrs Bell and when all of the ghost possessions were returned to its rightful home. She never appeared again.
